BARBICIDE Half Gallon Disinfectant Concentrate
Industry StandardThis is still the baseline for the nail jar. If a station says they are using something like Barbicide, our answer is: use Barbicide and mix it right.

There are products we test because they are interesting, and products we keep because the chair already settled the question. BARBICIDE is the second kind. On a manicure station the job is the jar: nonporous nail implements — pushers, nippers, curettes — disinfected between clients when mixed and used as directed. The EPA registration matters. The printed dilution matters. The anti-rust formula matters if the same steel goes through the jar all week.
The workflow is a sequence, not a splash. Clean first. Debris, dust, and product film come off the implement before it goes in the blue. A dirty tool in a pretty jar is theatre. Then mix: 2 ounces of concentrate per 32 ounces of water. Staff can learn that in one shift. A manager can check it without a science kit. Stronger is not better — it is wasteful and wrong.
Contact time is the step stations skip when the book is full. The implement has to stay wet with the solution for the time on the label. Dipping and wiping is not a cycle. We keep a small rack in the jar so nippers and pushers stay submerged instead of leaning on the rim half-dry.
Then the change schedule. A jar that looks blue at 4 p.m. is not automatically a jar you trust. Diluted solution is changed on a written interval, sooner if it is cloudy or loaded with debris. The half-gallon concentrate is what we keep under the station because it refills the 32-ounce jar — and a labeled spray bottle for hard nonporous surfaces — without inventing a second chemistry.
This is a disinfectant. It is not a cleaner and it is not a sterilant. Cleaning happens first. Sterilization is a separate autoclave cycle; the pouch is for storage after that cycle. BARBICIDE does not replace either. It is the jar step between a washed implement and the next paying hand.
The honest limit is discipline. Mix it wrong and you have expensive water. Skip contact time and you have a blue prop. Used as directed on nonporous nail tools, it is the concentrate we re-order without a meeting.
